This series shares MarionMade every week! Stories of our many wonderful people, places, products, and programs in the larger Marion community. To read more positive stories from Marion, or to share some of your own, visit us at marionmade.org or on social media.

An adult volunteer can make a huge impact in a student’s life. According to Mentor National, students associated with a mentor are more likely to attend school regularly, volunteer more regularly, and are more likely to hold leadership positions.

Marion Mentors works with many community groups to connect Marion County children with adult volunteers. The program is a collaboration of the Marion Family YMCA, Marion City Schools, Ridgedale, Pleasant and Elgin Local Schools, Boys and Girls Club, United Way of Marion County, and members of Marion’s faith community. Haley Wilkes, the YMCA’s Director of Mentoring, Diversity and Inclusion, leads the program.
