Cognizant Founders Cup – spring event honoring the 13 founding members of LPGA – will be held May 11-15 at the Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, NJ
Clifton, NJ, March 22, 2022 – Ahead of Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 9th, the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), along with its flagship event, the Cognizant Founders Cup, is celebrating “Mothers and Mentors” with the launch of the Great MOM Giveaway Contest 2022, a promotion aimed at finding that special mom or mentor who stands out among the best of the best by serving as a mentor and role model.
The competition, which runs March 15 through April 15, is part of the LPGA’s ongoing mission to include, empower and support girls and women through golf. In its quest to find that one special “mother or mentor,” the LPGA invites anyone interested in nominating a friend or family member to write a 250-word essay about what makes their nominee different from the rest takes off and submit it along with photos via email to Founders@LPGA.com with the subject line MOM and via other social platforms. Based on all essays received, a designated nominating committee will review all submissions, select 13 finalists and ultimately select a winner. The 13 finalists will be announced on April 20th and the winner on April 30th. Champion “MOM” will receive, along with one guest, transportation for (2), hotel accommodation for (2) nights for two people, hospitality tickets for (2) including food and beverages for May 13th and 14th during the competition rounds of the 2022 Cognizant Founders Cup at the historic Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, NJ. The 2022 Cognizant Founders Cup returns to Northern New Jersey for the second year running and will be hosted on one of the state’s premier golf courses while celebrating the LPGA’s legacy in an event featuring the world’s top professional golfers. The prestigious event pays tribute to the 13 founding members of the LPGA, including surviving founders Marlene Bauer Hagge and Shirley Spork, and features a $3 million purse, the largest of any LPGA Tour event outside of the majors and the CME Group Tour Championship. The 144-player field in 2022 is expected to be filled with the most talented and accomplished players on the tour, along with two special exceptions to be named at a later date.
Tickets for the tournament are available now at www.thefounderslpga.com, which includes general admission tickets that provide entry to the tournament venue every day Wednesday through Sunday, are $40, and a 5-day weekly pass is available for $125. Veterans, first responders, active military and juniors under 17 receive free admission. Hospitality packages start at $150 per day and include access to the Drive On Pavilion on the 9th green, parking pass, continental breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, water, coffee, soft drinks, beer and wine. Upper Montclair Country Club is one of the few country clubs in the world known to have hosted tournaments for all three professional golf tournaments, including the LPGA in 1979 and 1980, 1983 and 1984, and 2007-2009. Long considered one of NJ’s premier golf clubs, this legendary AW Tillinghast course underwent a major renovation in the 1950’s under the direction of Robert Trent Jones, Sr., which saw the Upper Montclair Country Club move into its current 27th year -Hole Championship layout has been converted. The acclaimed venue, which has hosted hundreds of the world’s best players for many decades, will challenge an elite field of LPGA TOUR golfers.
