Electronic Transaction Consultants has been commissioned to deliver the next generation centralized interoperability hub in support of E-ZPass member agencies.
NEW YORK, NY, April 18, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA) and Electronic Transaction Consultants, LLC (ETC), a Quarterhill Inc. (TSX: QTRH) (OTCQX: QTRHF) company have signed a contract to implement and operate the E-ZPass Interoperability (EZIOP) Hub. TBTA oversees the procurement and implementation of the EZIOP Hub project on behalf of the member agencies of the E-ZPass Interagency Group (IAG). The initial contract term is ten (10) years with one (1) 3 year option. The contract is subject to customary terms and conditions and is valued at approximately $21.5 million.
The EZIOP hub aims to enable an optimized exchange of transaction data via a centralized interoperability hub between E-ZPass member agencies, third parties and other regional hubs. The project enables flexible phased adoption of national interoperability standards (NIOP) via the Enhanced Interface Control Document (ICD) and aims to pave the way for the expansion of multimodal interoperability to support future integrated mobility initiatives of member agencies.
IAG is made up of multi-state member agencies managing more than 32 million accounts, 49 million tags and over $12.1 billion in e-toll collections. According to IAG, it is the largest toll interoperability network in the world. The EZIOP Hub will facilitate and manage interoperability between existing member agencies and states, and support the Interagency Group’s ongoing geographic expansion as it continues to add states and members. The hub is designed to help E-ZPass member agencies provide a seamless tolling experience for their members across interstate lines with less time and effort than before. The hub provides all reports used for billing between member agencies and other regional hubs and supports other required IAG reports.

The stated goal of the project is to “use advances in the industry to overhaul the current IAG Toll Reciprocity architecture and processes to provide a robust, flexible and easily scalable platform on which to address evolving IAG business needs , and to facilitate national toll interoperability.” The proposed EZIOP hub system is based on a flexible architecture with evergreen enabling technologies to support dynamic future layering of functionalities, protocols and services over the course of a decade, driven by ongoing changes and Expansions of demand for new mobility services and needs of member agencies.
