eDriving launches non-telematic version of Mentor driver app
New Jersey-based eDriving announced the availability of Mentor Insight, the non-telematic version of its Mentor driver safety app.
Mentor Insight offers many of the same driver behavior improvement tools, including risk assessment, predictive driver assessment, eLearning, manager coaching and gamification, but without the telematics-based monitoring of driver behavior behind the wheel.
The company said its new product is for “organizations that are not yet ready to address the privacy concerns that often accompany full deployment of telematics-based security applications, as well as for organizations that may have a telematics solution in place but are keen to do so.” would take advantage of Mentor’s additional features.”
Mentor Insight provides a comprehensive view of driver risk to sharpen defensive driver knowledge, behavior and attitudes while protecting driver privacy. Its characteristics include:
- Driver Risk Score – All drivers receive a DriverINDEX score that combines collision, accident and license check data as well as the results of the RoadRISK risk score into one driver score, facilitating benchmarking and identifying an organization’s most vulnerable drivers for training and coaching.
- eLearning – More than 300 short, interactive eLearning modules help engage drivers and encourage safer driving behaviors
- Manager Coaching Toolkit – Templates to help managers coach their at-risk drivers with custom formats suitable for monthly meetings, annual reviews, and post-collision/infringement.
- Gamification – Friendly competition and continuous safety-focused communication that allows riders to set up groups where they can see other team members’ progress/results and use emojis and chat features to send motivational messages.
Mentor Insight also offers an integrated personal SOS function for Bosch and Sfara emergency services. The personal SOS alarm can be triggered anytime, anywhere by drivers to call for help if they feel unwell or are concerned about their safety.

Comcast’s Notion improves leak sensor service
Notion, which offers leak detection and security systems that could result in rebates on homeowners’ insurance premiums, has announced Notion PRO, an upgrade that allows the sensors to be professionally monitored and customers can also receive escalated alerts.
The sensors monitor water leaks, open doors and windows, alarms and temperature changes.
Homeowners can upgrade to the Notion PRO service for $10 a month, while users can potentially save up to 15% on their home insurance premiums, the company said in a release.
One of the insurers, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co., which partnered with Notion on the sensor program, announced in March that premium rebates would amount to about $50 per year. The 15% rebate possible with the upgrade appears to be an increase in credit for homeowners.
Comcast joins a growing list of service providers and insurers that are now offering sensors to minimize losses. Chubb earlier this year began offering 3% discounts on rewards for using its sensors and up to 8% for using water pipe shut-off devices.
HUB launches platform for personal lines
Hub International has launched a digital platform for transactional personal insurance such as home and auto insurance.
The launch of the new platform, dubbed VIU by HUB, follows HUB’s acquisition of Insureon, a commercial-focused digital platform.
HUB hopes to “dramatically transform the consumer experience,” said Marc Cohen, President and CEO of HUB.
VIU by HUB will allow customers to interact with HUB how and when they want, get quick quotes that minimize the need for manual research, get options and coverage, and consolidate their policies in one place.
VIU by HUB will deliver insurance directly to the consumer through its retail channel. Additionally, with its new strategic partnership program, HUB is partnering with auto dealerships, mortgage brokers, real estate agents and bankers, among other industries, to offer insurance through its branded or white-label platform VIU by HUB.
