OAKLAND, Calif., June 21, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Oaksterdam University (OU) is pleased to announce an exciting educational partnership with Golden Gate University (GGU). The partnership allows students to transfer credits from Oaksterdam Certification Courses for a bachelor’s degree at the GGU. It is the first partnership of this kind.
Graduates of the OE can transfer up to 18 credits of corresponding courses of the OE to the GGU with a minimum score of 80 percent. The following courses can be credited:
- Cannabis Business – 6 credits
- Horticulture — 6 credits
- Extraction and Crafting – 6 credits
The partnership allows Oaksterdam to offer students a path to an accredited degree and GGU to offer a path to careers in the cannabis industry, America’s fastest growing industry. The field is adding an average of 280 jobs per day to the US economy, according to the 2022 Sheet Job Report. With employment growth of 33 percent from 2021, there is increasing demand for employees in a variety of cannabis-related fields. A growing number of colleges and universities across the country are making efforts to include cannabis curricula in their course offerings and this is where Oaksterdam comes in.
“Improving education and outcomes is our legacy. Established in 2007 as the world’s first cannabis college, Oaksterdam provides quality training for the cannabis industry. Now we are excited to expand the learning outcomes of our certification program for students at GGU,” he says OU Executive Chancellor Dale Sky Jones. “This is the critical step in bringing traditional colleges together to make cannabis practitioner degrees actionable and accessible.”
Oaksterdam’s certification courses help prepare students for work in cannabis cultivation, sales and management of dispensaries, extraction laboratories and product manufacturing. In addition to jobs directly in the field, OU’s Business of Cannabis certification course provides students with a broad knowledge base to start their own business or serve the industry through sideline jobs such as law, finance, human resources, marketing, and technology.
Corresponding Nate HinermanDean of GGU’s School of Undergraduate Studies, GGU has a rich history of supporting the educational goals of self-made individuals and the new partnership with Oaksterdam is consistent with that mission.
“Golden Gate University invites Oaksterdam University students to pursue their bachelor’s degree in business administration at GGU,” said Hinerman, PhD, LMFT. “Since our inception, our hands-on degree programs have helped advance the careers of business leaders who bring a uniquely San Francisco spirit of innovation to their studies. This partnership and pathway program is an exciting opportunity for GGU graduates to differentiate themselves in the rapidly emerging cannabis industry.”
