The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents reveals more tributes and mentors in cast

The Hunger Games prequel film. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes has revealed a new cast of cast members who will play the roles of tributes and mentors in the film. As we know from the original by Suzanne Collins hunger games Series (and its film adaptations), the cast of tributes and mentors are key pieces of the puzzle. The tributes are the cannon fodder that will be killed off during the deadly tournament until the true heroes and villains are left to fight it. Meanwhile, the mentors provide much-needed cutaway scenes as in-game politics plays out in the bleachers while the actual battle royale takes place in the arena.

Here’s the full list of new additions to the cast of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents:

NICK BENSON, LAUREL MARSDEN, LILLY COOPER, LUNA STEEPLES and HIROKI BERRECLOTH join the cast of Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, alongside Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler.

Benson will play Jessup, a District 12 tribute, alongside Zegler’s Lucy Gray Baird; Marsden will play Mayfair Lipp, who puts Lucy Gray’s name in the running for the tenth Hunger Games; Cooper will play Arachne Crane, mentor on a District 10 tribute; Steeples play Dill, a homage to District 11; and Berrecloth will play Treech, a District 7 tribute.”

The studio recently announced that moviegoers will return to The Hunger Games, the seminal film franchise that has grossed over $3 billion worldwide, when The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes opens on November 17 Will be in cinemas worldwide in 2023. Years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow (Blyth) is the last hope for his fading lineage, a once-proud family fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. It is directed by franchise producer Nina Jacobson and her producing partner Brad Simpson along with Francis Lawrence.

Suzanne Collins, Tim Palen and Jim Miller will serve as executive producers.

The final draft of the screenplay is by Michael Lesslie (Macbeth with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard and Assassin’s Creed). Lesslie builds on the work of writers Suzanne Collins and Michael Arndt (the Oscar®-winning screenwriter of Little Miss Sunshine and co-writer of Catching Fire). The screenplay is based on the best-selling novel by Collins.

Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien are supervising on behalf of the studio.

NICK BENSON (Jessup) graduated from the University of Southern California in 2021 with a BFA in acting for screen, stage and new media. Since graduating, he has shot recurring roles on Netflix’s Boo, Bitch and Disney+’s Big Shot. He is represented by SMS Talent and Untitled Entertainment.

LAUREL MARSDEN (Mayfair Lipp) is currently starring as Zoe Zimmer on the Marvel series Ms. Marvel” from Disney+. The Zimmer character debuted in 2014’s Ms. Marvel No. 3″. She recently wrapped production on All Fun and Games opposite Asa Butterfield and Natalia Dyer. Marsden previously starred alongside Sophie Turner and Corey Hawkins in Quibi’s Survive. She is represented by Encompass and Zero Gravity Management.

LILLY COOPER (Arachne Crane) is an English actress. She completed her training at the Identity School of Acting in London. Her credits include the role of Murta on The Witcher series 1 and 2. The 23-year-old is represented by Identity Agency Group.

LUNA STEEPLES (Dill) is an outstanding young performer with a spunky, outgoing and fearless personality and maturity that transcends her age. Her mother, Paola Menacho, is from Bolivia and her father, Eddie Steeples, from St. Louis, Missouri. Growing up speaking both English and Spanish, Luna celebrated the diversity of her family. Luna’s family is philanthropic and supports St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Alexandria House for Women and Children, which helps create spaces, jobs and friendships where all people can thrive. She is represented by Jackson Entertainment Management (JEM) and Skrzyniarz & Mallean.

HIROKI BERRECLOTH (Treech) has starred in the BBC show Red Rose and in the short films Black Lichen, The Intruder and Why Do You Look at Me with These Eyes?. He is currently acting while pursuing a science degree at university. He is passionate about the representation of Southeast Asians in media and film and one of his goals is to one day found a platform or production company that will support the development of SEA artists and promote SEA narratives. However, at the moment he is a regular student who relaxes by reading manga and skating with friends. He is represented by Simon & How.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes hits theaters on November 17, 2023.
